Hempstead House Wedding
The experience to plan this Hempstead House wedding will be one of those moments in my career that will always stick with me. I planned and designed The Knot Dream Wedding’s first same-sex wedding at the Hempstead House at Sands Point Preserve and it was literally a dream come true! Amanda and Elena’s love story is so moving and we were thrilled to share in the actualization of their wedding dreams!
The Venue
The big event took place on the historically idyllic grounds of Hempstead House at Sands Point Preserve on a gorgeous November day. Every corner of the grounds embodies nostalgic luxury and romance, and it was the perfect setting for the brides’ cultivated celebration. Amanda and Elena are two of the most thoughtful, loving people and their generous spirits and conscious hearts were felt throughout the event. Beyond requesting donations to their favorite charities in lieu of gifts, it was important that details throughout the day were environmentally aware. An approach that we adore.
The Wedding Design & Details
The couple dreamed of a design that was elegant and memorable, drawing inspiration from and honoring the architectural beauty of the estate. As always, Mimosa Floral Design executed the magical garden design beautifully, using locally sourced greenery and branches for the elaborate installation.
Upon arrival to the house, guests were greeted by an exquisite display of greenery and white florals which continued throughout the space. A multitude of blooms all in shades of white created a timeless garden feel. The abundance of florals was then donated after the event to local nursing and rehabilitation centers. The ceremony took place on the garden grounds overlooking the Long Island Sound. Blooms lined the aisle and an elaborate floral arch set the backdrop for their vows. A sweet hand fasting ceremony added to the romance and left family and friends in awe of the couple and their devotion to one another.
The Reception
White and gold details in the escort card display and tablescapes added touches of modern elegance to the design. And Patina Vintage Rentals provided a lounge that was perfectly at home within the detailed estate walls.
Guests were spoiled by Philip Stone Caterers who prepared a locally sourced menu. Every tasty morsel was inspired by the couple’s favorite eats experienced throughout their travels together. Such a creative way to keep their day personal! Further keeping with the importance of community appreciation any remaining food was donated to shelters. A monogrammed dance floor stood out within the space, providing an elegantly personal locale for those special father-daughter dances. And the fun dance party that followed, of course!
At the end of the night an epic, six and a half foot tall, 11-tiered cake from Nine Cakes wowed us all. The textures of each layer were masterfully made, and the effect was pure wonderment. If the delicious cake wasn’t enough, an elaborate dessert bar with a variety of delectable bites spoiled us all.
